The bridge was closed this Sunday after multiple cracks were reported, and is expected to remain closed for a month owing to redevelopment work.

The Nishatganj-IT crossing bridge, which is also referred to as the Indira Bridge of Lucknow, serves as a crucial transit point along the route spanning the Nishatganj railway crossing.

Recently, multiple cracks were reported on the supporting walls while the metal girders near the crossing were also seen in tattered condition. Owing to this, the bridge was closed for vehicular traffic movement this Sunday for reconstruction work. Moreover, the bridge will most likely remain closed for an entire month.

What are the alternate routes?

This bridge, stretching over a length of 617 meters, was constructed two decades ago, and has remained one of the most significant flyovers in the city, catering to a daily traffic volume of 10,000-15,000.

  • Vehicles heading towards IT crossing from Nishatganj, can turn right, before the Indira Bridge and proceed towards Gol Market-Chhanni Lal Crossing. Then take a left turn and continue straight, turn right towards the railway crossing and proceed to the IT Crossing route.

  • Similarly, the vehicles arriving to Nishatganj from IT crossing can take a left turn before Indian Oil Pump leading to Channi Lal Crossing-Gol Market intersection and then head to Nishatganj crossing.

More about the ongoing work

On Sunday, a group of officials from the Northern Railway department, Uttar Pradesh Public Works Department, and Bridge Corporation conducted an inspection of the bridge.

Additionally, it has been determined that redevelopment work will begin shortly. With this, maintenance work on the Indira Bridge will be ongoing for the next month, during which time vehicular traffic will not be permitted.
