No more “crossing band thi” for Amitians; Lucknow’s Malhaur flyover reaches last phase of completion!

The Malhaur railway over bridge project has finally reached its last phase of completion. The flyover that was supposed to ease traffic congestion in the Malhaur area has been under construction since a long time. The bridge starts near the Lucknow Amity campus and ends in Gomti Nagar’s Viraj Khand.

What's the update?

The Malhaur railway over bridge had become an eyesore and a major cause for unending traffic woes since the last few years. The flyover has been “under construction” and literally “hanging in the air” since the last 5 years and it finally looks like the flyover will see the light of day, this year.

The Facts

The project was approved in 2013 and the construction work carried on till 2016, when the construction came to a halt first because of the railway department. The angle of the bridge coming down on the railway crossing was quite low and the railway pillars quite high. This resulted in the work being stopped.

After this the project was halted again because of some issues with the Ministry of Defence and it was only last year that the ministry gave a NOC to the project.

When will it complete?

The much anticipated Malhaur railway over bridge project is in its final phase of completion and is expected to finish very soon.

Whom does it benefit?

The Malhaur railway crossing has been the reason of several road blocks and traffic jams that last for hours. The two lane road is unable to handle the dual onslaught of traffic, because of which students travelling to the Amity campus and people going to work have to face the tiresome traffic regularly.

Completion of this flyover will surely benefit the students travelling to and fro from Amity. It will also help in ending the traffic woes of people travelling on the Barabanki, Faizabad and Gorakhpur route.

Knock Knock

Since the Malhaur railway crossing is the only way to go through to Lucknow’s Amity Campus, students are often stuck in jams and get late for important classes and often exams. The reason being, the Malhaur crossing which remains closed for lengthy periods. Students have to respond with “Crossing band thi” and “Crossing pe phas gaye the”when inquired about their late coming. After the completion of the flyover students will no longer have an excuse as to why they were late to class (*wink wink). So, it would be prudent to start searching for a new one!
