A series of drunken fights which broke out at various floors of Gomti Nagar’s Rohtas Summit building over the weekend has raised a loud alarm and severe safety concerns amidst social citizens. The unlawful behaviour of a few party-goers has now led to F&B establishments and offices on the stretch, to shut down their operations abruptly and the entire Summit Building has been shuttered, until further notice. Videos and pictures of people indulging in an abusive scuffle have surfaced online and is going viral all across the city and beyond. This directs us back to one major question- the onus of such an incident shall be borne by whom?

In the violent videos which are being passed on at the speed of light, it is visible that a bunch of tipplers are putting seasoned hooligans to shame and here’s where we would have hoped for the security personnel to be in motion yet they were mostly missing.
Now the question still stands- in such a situation, whose responsibility is it to maintain law and order? Is it on the police? The management? Or is it on the public to behave themselves after getting drunk? We think we know the answer. Yet we’re still giving others an opportunity to disregard our city as a developing one and helping them to stereotype us within the confines of a shackle, which we’ve worked so hard to break free from!
This incident has led to serious losses for businesses to the upwards of Rs 30 lakhs a day along the belt of this building, to an extent that restaurants, cafes and bars are now not allowed to open until notified further and it truly speaks of how one such step forward can take us ten steps backwards.
Knock Knock
Lucknow is famed for its tehzeeb and tameez and such episodes rip off what the city actually stands for! Such exploits are highly condemned by all and ‘drink responsibly’ should not be just a phase- it should be what one must practice when in a public space.
