With its all-new COVID-immunisation drill, extending for 48 hours, on Thursday and Friday, Uttar Pradesh aims to immunise nearly 2.45 lakh healthcare and frontline workers here. As many as 1,600 sites will undertake the activity on Thursday, while on Friday, about 750 centres will relay the phase, informed the Addition Chief Secretary of Health and Family Welfare.
COVID vaccination drive in Uttar Pradesh
Uttar Pradesh had listed about 9.06 health workers for phase one COVID vaccination, where about 26% or 2.34 workers are from the private sector. The Additional Secretary of Health informed that state’s performance has been exemplary, helping it scale to the primary number 1 rank in the country for achieving the beneficiary-count target. So far, the state has vaccinated 4,63,793 healthcare workers, till January 29, covering about 69% of the total 6.71 lakh target. Following Uttar Pradesh are Maharashtra and Karanataka, where 3,18,744 and 3,16,368 health workers have been inoculated against the coronavirus, respectively.
While the focus remained targetted on healthcare workers and medical staff, until now, the state will extend the arms of vaccination to included frontline workers on Friday. Over 2.45 lakh people will be inoculated by Friday, stated the Additional Health Secretary. 3,18,744 and 3,16,368 health workers have been inoculated, respectively. “Health workers topped this chart while frontline workers followed next,” he said. The official also urged health workers not to miss their shot as their selection was done on the basis of a priority list that assessed the risk of infection.
Mop-Up Round to vaccinate absentee beneficiaries
Meanwhile, the UP General Manager of Immunization, National Health Mission addressed the topic of frontline workers’ vaccination and stated, “As per the available list, more than eight lakh front line workers, including police, municipal, civil defence, armed forces, revenue and panchayati raj department personnel among others will be vaccinated.” He also stated that the Co-Win portal shall be altered with upgrades to orchestrate a high coverage achievement of the enormous tally. “The change will facilitate vaccination of the willing listed beneficiaries in place of the absentee counterparts,” he said.
Officials informed that the UP’s Thursday-Friday vaccination drive aims to immunise the remaining 4.4 lakh health workers. A mop-up round is also being organized on February 15. In this, listed health workers who missed their shot on previous occasions will have a last chance to get vaccinated. Phase1 inoculation, aimed healthcare and frontline workers will wrap up before March 25, reported officials. Thereafter, vaccination will begin for people over 50 years of age.
