In a move impacting daily expenses, Lucknow Municipal Corporation has approved several proposals that will lead to a sharp increase in service charges across the city. The revised policies, ratified during the recent Tuesday meeting, will affect multiplex movie tickets, parking fees, water tanker services, and business licence costs. These changes come at a time when residents are already grappling with rising inflation, and are set to further strain household budgets.
Parking fees to triple
The government’s new parking rules, approved by the Municipal Corporation, now limit fee validity to just one or two hours, compared to four hours earlier.

Two-Wheelers
Underground parking will now cost ₹15 for two hours (previously ₹10 for four hours). Parking for four hours will now cost ₹30 – triple the earlier rate. -
Four-Wheelers
Previously, parking was ₹25 for four hours. The new charge is ₹30 for two hours, meaning four-hour parking now costs ₹60, twice the earlier rate. -
Monthly Passes
Monthly parking passes now cost ₹855 for two-wheelers and ₹1,800 for four-wheelers. Earlier, a 12-hour two-wheeler pass was ₹400, and a 24-hour pass was ₹800. For four-wheelers, a day pass ranged from ₹600 to ₹800.
Higher licence fees for liquor shops

Model Shops: Annual licence fees increased from ₹60,000 to ₹85,000.

Composite Shops: Selling both English liquor and beer now face a uniform licence fee of ₹75,000, replacing separate charges for each.
Medical-related licence fees increased

Nursing & Maternity Homes (Up to 50 Beds): Fee increased from ₹7,500 to ₹13,000 per annum.

Pathology Labs: Licence fee raised from ₹5,000 to ₹10,000 annually.

Dental Clinics: Fee remains ₹10,000 per annum.
A ₹1,000 late fee will apply for licences not renewed between April and June.
Show tax rates triple

Multiplex Cinemas: Show tax increased from ₹100 to ₹300 per show.

Single-Screen Air-Conditioned Cinemas: Tax raised from ₹50 to ₹100 per show.
Water tanker charges now apply
Free water tankers will now be restricted to religious events, community meals, and social functions. For private use:

₹500 for one hour (tanker must be emptied and returned within the hour).

₹1,000 for 24 hours.
A 25% discount applies based on the recommendation of local councillors.
