85 major intersections in Lucknow have been declared as no-activity zones, implying that it is prohibited to set up footpath shops, carts or stalls here. Additionally, no auto, tempo or e-rickshaw can stop within 50 meters of the demarcated areas. A red line will be drawn to mark these areas, indicating no-activity zones. Bus stops that lie within the space will also be removed.
Areas which have been earmarked incorporate prominent chaurahe such as Awadh, Polytechnic, Dubagga, Charbagh, and so on, and also include some 70 tirahe of Kamta, Chinhat, etc.
Broadening of roads, separate parking spots and more
The sole aim of the move is to alleviate traffic chaos. Parking at bustling intersections of both private automobiles and public vehicles like buses, tempos, e-rickshaws and handcarts add to traffic woes every day. To cut down on the same, DCP Traffic has been instructed and briefed by the Divisional Commissioner. Ban has been levied at any vehicle parking here.
Separate parking arrangements will also be provided for the public transport vehicles, indicated by a yellow boundary line. Autos or tempos can stop within this line and move after getting passengers.
Efforts will also be put in to widen certain narrow roads. For instance, the estuary of the road from Gomti Nagar to Munshipulia on Polytechnic is being broadened for the same purpose.
