In a video, she emphasised on her purpose of visiting Lucknow, "I'm keen to understand how the needle has shifted for women and children in the state of Uttar Pradesh. I want to see, first hand, how technology and innovation is making that shift at scale."

The actor's agenda in the city

Chopra, who spent a part of her childhood in Lucknow, studying in La Martiniere Girls' College, mentioned that she was looking forward to this field visit.

She's in town for two days with an aim to fulfill certain social responsibilities. Here to note the state of girls’ education, observe the scenario, report from the ground in order to ultimately strengthen women and girls, she will also witness the progress of the work done by UNICEF here, to end violence and discrimination against women.

"Gender inequality results in unequal opportunities & it is the girls that are the most disadvantaged," says Chopra.

On a path to gender equality

Throughout the years, the 'Barfi' superstar has done some great work in raising voices against child marriage, all kinds (physical, emotional and sexual) of violence against children and women, and, evidently, continues to do the same.

Young girls bear the harshest brunt of gender inequality, she mentioned, in a video. Chopra, who is here to listen, first hand, to the challenges and struggles women face daily, was welcomed with huge appreciation and heaps of warmth and applause in Lucknow.
