Satellite bus terminals will soon be used to decongest roads in Lucknow

There’s no denying that Lucknow is a city with loads of traffic problems. The city authorities have taken steps to make it a thing of the past, but the results have not been as expected. This time around, the authorities aim to set up several Smart Bus stations around the city to decongest the roads and rid them of slow moving public transport buses.

The UPSRTC’s plan is to decongest traffic near bus depots by setting up new satellite bus stands in areas such as Charbagh, Kaiserbagh, Alambagh and some areas of Gomtinagar.

The satellite bus terminals will be monitored around the clock with the help of satellites and will ensure that buses take set routes only. The aforementioned areas are already very congested and it only makes sense to reroute the buses in a more orderly fashion.

Apart from the more crowded areas of Charbagh and Alambagh, Gomti Nagar and Amausi will also become home to the bus terminals. In these areas, traffic conditions are not that bad, but the change could improve the existing conditions.

The UPSRTC has already purchased land in the required areas and will soon begin construction as well as diversions to streamline traffic. The terminal in Gomti Nagar is being developed as a part of the state government’s scheme to construct 21 bus terminals in Uttar Pradesh, under Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode. The proposal for the Gomti Nagar terminal was approved last year.

Another reason they aim to set up the terminals is to increase and improve connectivity to the nearby metro stations. As of now, there is no word on when construction of the bus terminals in Charbagh, Alambagh and Kaiserbagh will begin, but it should start soon this year.
