A new centre for paediatrics cardiology to come up soon at SGPGIMS in Lucknow

The facility will be developed in collaboration with a US-based organization and will provide treatment for congenital heart defects in children.

The Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS) in Lucknow will soon develop a specialized centre for excellence in pediatric cardiology. This centre will address the problem of congenital heart anomalies amongst kids below 18 years of age. The facility will be developed in collaboration with a US-based organization.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed with Saloni Heart Institute, a San Fransisco-based healthcare foundation for the establishment of the facility at SGPGIMS in Lucknow.

A 200-bed Paediatric Cardiology Centre will be set up at the hospital

Reportedly, India alone accounts for 46% of the global Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) affected population. As per the data released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, nearly 10 out of 100 children suffer from CHD in India. Pertaining to the lack of infrastructure and specialization, the foundation will now set up a 200-bed Paediatric Cardiology Centre at SGPGIMS with the active support of the UP government.

Furthermore, the MoU was signed in the presence of State Finance Minister Suresh Khanna and Saloni Heart Institute founder, Mili Seth during the UP Global Investors' Summit 2023, US tour.

Initially, a 30-bed CoE facility will be set up in the institute during the first phase which will be expanded gradually to the proposed level.
