Startup incubation centres to come up at 15 govt colleges in UP, including Lucknow's IET

A startup culture in UP will create an ecosystem for innovations & excellence.

In an attempt to create a viable environment to culture new startups in Uttar Pradesh, the govt has decided to set up new incubation centres at 15 government engineering colleges. The move will promote a startup ecosystem in UP and back-up innovation and excellence in multiple fields, across prominent districts, including Lucknow, Kanpur and many others.

Additionally, an innovation hub will also be set up at the Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University in Lucknow. Reportedly, the state has released a ₹22.46 crore budget to run the whole project.


Culturing UP's entrepreneurial talent

The new incubation startup policy of the state has been defined as a move to favour local entrepreneurial talent in Uttar Pradesh and provide them with a platform to cultivate growth. About 15 state engineering colleges will get the new cells to conduct activities that promote this vision, under the authority of specially deployed incubation managers, informed Alok Kumar, the Secretary of Technical and Vocation Education Department.

Reportedly the policy targets to set up a total of 20 incubators under the Department of Technical Education and an innovation hub at the AKTU in Lucknow. In the first phase, these provisions will be established at the following colleges in the state:

  • Government Engineering College, Ambedkarnagar
  • Government Engineering College, Azamgarh
  • Government Engineering College, Bijnor
  • Government Engineering College, Kannauj
  • Government Engineering College, Mainpuri
  • Government Engineering College, Sonbhadra
  • Government Engineering College, Banda

  • Institute of Engineering & Technology, Lucknow
  • Bundelkhand Institute Of Engineering and Technology, Jhansi
  • Uttar Pradesh Textile Technology Institute, Kanpur
  • Faculty Of Architecture, AKTU, Lucknow
  • Centre for Advanced Studies | CAS AKTU, Lucknow
  • UP Institute of Design, Noida
  • Dr Ambedkar Institute of Technology for Handicapped, Kanpur
  • Kamla Nehru Institute of Technology, Sultanpur

The initiative has been rolled out under the scope of UP's Startup Policy, 2020, read reports. The scheme emphasises on the establishment of Centres of Excellence, Innovation Hubs and Incubators with the idea of driving new and local businesses into the mainstream. This in turn will promote the startup culture in the state by nurturing an ecosystem for innovation.
