After a long COVID hiatus, the 10th edition of the Sultan of Johor Cup will finally be played at Johor Bahru in Malaysia. Hockey India on Saturday revealed the 18-member Indian junior men’s squad for Sultan of Johor Cup 2022. The team will be captained by Uttam Singh and vice captained by Boby Singh Dhami.
The Sultan of Johor Cup is an annual tournament that started in 2011 and is played between 6 teams. The Indian side which ended its previous campaign with a silver medal while fighting against Great Britain will take on, Australia, Japan, South Africa, Malaysia and Great Britain in the 2022 edition.
Uttam Singh to lead the charge
Under the guidance of coach CR Kumar, the India Hockey team will begin their campaign against Malaysia on October 22. The Sultan of Johor Cup holds great importance for the junior players, as it is the gateway for them to the senior team. Over the years, the Indian side has remained consistent with their performance, holding at least one spot in the tournament.

So far, the Indian side has won two editions, meanwhile, Great Britain leads the battles with three titles in their name. This year, Captain Uttam Singh will lead the charge in the forward line along with Boby Singh Dhami, Angad Bir Singh, Araijeet Singh Hundal and Sudeep Chirmako.
Defenders, Amir Ali, Shardanand Tiwari, Rohit, Amandeep Lakra, and Cyril Lugun will hold the line intact, meanwhile, Vishnukant Singh, Rajinder Singh, Ankit Pal, Poovanna CB, Amandeep, Johnson Purthy will play the role of Midfielders.
