On Sunday, Lucknow’s overall Air Quality Index level was found to be 260. The city has been experiencing smog and visibility issues since the day of Diwali. The AQI peaked on Thursday with 302 points.
Yesterday, the Talkatora Industrial Area experienced the worst air quality with 378 points. Anything over 300 points is considered to be ‘very poor’. The Gomti Nagar Area was the second-worst hit with 270 points. One of the primary reasons behind this sharp downfall in Air Quality was the bursting of firecrackers as part of Diwali celebrations that continued throughout the night on Thursday.
Morning-walkers raise complaints
The city’s residents experienced discomfort while going on their morning walks on Friday. Burning sensation in the eyes and respiratory issues were common complaints. Abhishek Kumar, a college student from Aliganj, said, “I walk for about half an hour every day. Today, I had to return home earlier than usual because I was feeling breathless.” His statement was echoed by Aryan Singh, a school student from Jankipuram, who said, “I practice with my football team at 6 in the morning. Today, we had to call off the training early on because our eyes were hurting. Washing with water and resting helped wear off the pain.”
