Dhanteras shopping done right!

If you're heading out on Dhanteras and have no time to spare we have chalked out a list of places where you can head to get everything you need for the perfect Diwali shopping experience.

For Ganesh-Laxmi idols and Pooja Samagri: We all know that the most essential thing to get on Dhanteras night are the Ganesh Laxmi idols and the stuff you need for pooja. If you're looking for the same in Aliganj, we would suggest heading to the Kapoorthala market where you'll find stall after stall of idols, garlands, bandhanwars, small rangoli kits, copper utensils, nariyal and more.

If you're a little tight on budget head to Dandaiya market and on the Neera Hospital lane you will find the best of garlands, chandan, diyas and everything you need to do the pooja right. The Dev-vanshi Poojan Bhandar in Dandaiya is the biggest and the most reasonable of all places and you'll find everything you need for the pooja under one roof. You can also checkout the lane in front of Mahalaxmi for what you need.

Diyas, Candles, Clay Decor Pieces: While you can find average diyas in Kapoorthala, Dandaiya and every other stall along the road. But, if you're looking for really good candles, diya designs and real clay idols or decor pieces head to the Sector Q market in Aliganj. There you'll find reasonably priced diyas, decorative diyas, clay items and all your 'mitti ke khilaune'.

If by chance you're looking for something more exquisite and refined, yet something traditionally made out of clay, we suggest checking out the Regional science city lane at Puraniya Chauraha. The craftsmen have brought best of pottery and clay design pieces to the lane and they will adorn your homes like nothing else will.

Rangoli Colours, Stencils and Burada: Diwali also means that you'll be busy making colourful and vibrant rangolis. So if you're looking for vibrant colours, wooden burada or some stencils that will make your life much simpler, head to Kapoorthala market and you'll find rangoli colours of all kinds, stencils and even rangoli stickers are ready to go.

And if you're looking for colourful wooden burada, reasonably priced stencils and other things you need for the rangoli designs, even flowers, the Sector Q market is where you need to look at. All the good vendors sit near the temple complex and you'll find the best of everything right there.

Lights and Lanterns: If you're looking for some Diwali lights and lanterns (or kandeel) to add some sparkle to your home you can look for the same in the local markets. But, if you want something that will last you beyond a three-four day stint you have to make a deep dive inside the Kapoorthala market complex. We suggest checking out the electric shops near Universal book store and inside Pragati Market.

[rebelmouse-image 22613711 original_size="1280x807" expand=1][rebelmouse-image 22613713 original_size="1280x817" expand=1][rebelmouse-image 22613715 original_size="1280x853" expand=1]

If you want something cheap, average and run-of-the-mill, the Dandaiya market and Sector Q market have gems in store for you. There you will also find a plethora of lanterns or all kinds, ranging from durable plastic to intricate and delicate paper.

Patakhe: For some os us Diwali is still incomplete without bursting a dozen crackers. The sight and the sound of a rocket shooting, the spectacle of the anaar and chakri are stuff that we relate with nostalgia and just cannot imagine Diwali bereft of these.

The ground in front of KV Aliganj, is "the" place to be when you're looking for some good quality crackers. We're talking about the real deal, the big guns! Just make sure that you cross check the prices at different stalls because shopkeepers here, are known to be a little sketchy with the prices. If you don't want to spend a ton on crackers and are just looking for the average joe, we recommend checking out the market at Sitapur road, you will find a selection of stall that'll cater to all your cracker needs.
