Uncertainity prevails in renewing licenses for 23 banned breeds in Lucknow

The central government recently banned the adoption and sale of 23 exotic dog breeds nationwide. Despite the ban, local authorities, including the Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC), were permitted to renew pet licenses for existing owners, provided their dogs are vaccinated and sterilized.

LMC began renewing pet licenses on April 1 for existing owners of the 23 banned exotic dog breeds. However, the renewal process came to a sudden stop due to unclear state directives, affecting approximately 400 dog owners in Lucknow.

Currently, there is confusion over the state government's guidelines for license renewals, even for those with sterilization certificates. As a result, the 400 affected dog owners are unable to renew their licenses, and the LMC is awaiting clarification from the state government to resume the licensing process.
