Lucknow is set for dramatic weather changes this week as Uttar Pradesh swings between extreme heat and anticipated thunderstorms. While Monday will continue to sizzle with temperatures hovering around 40°C, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts relief from Tuesday, with rains likely to lower temperatures by 4°C.

Enjoy storms for now, heat looms

The city recorded high humidity levels over the weekend, making the heat feel even more oppressive. However, senior scientist Atul Kumar Singh forecasts thunderstorms and gusty winds from Tuesday through Thursday, offering much needed respite. Lucknow is among 14 districts under an orange alert for severe weather.

Western UP districts may see the first changes, with rains expected statewide by Tuesday. But the relief may be short-lived, IMD warns of temperatures rising again by June 5, with westerly winds pushing the mercury up by 3-5°C.

Residents are advised to stay alert for lightning in Lucknow and nearby areas, including Barabanki and Unnao. The erratic weather follows Banda recording a scorching 44°C, the highest in UP, while Varanasi and Jhansi crossed 41.5°C.
