UP Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad cancels 12th state board exams in wake of the pandemic threat

The Uttar Pradesh Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad (UPMSP) has cancelled the UP Board class 12 board exams in view of the ongoing COVID spell. UP's Deputy Chief Minister, who also holds the secondary education portfolio, on Thursday relayed the state's decision to nullify the council assessments for the academic year 2020-2021. Last week, the state government had cancelled the class 10 Board examinations, as well.

In a crucial meeting chaired by the CM, the UPMSP and the state officials, it was finalised to cancel the state board examinations for class 12 students amid the tenacious spread of the coronavirus infection. As per reports, this decision will affect as many as 26 lakh students who were slated to take the class 12 examinations this year. The Deputy Chief Minister further informed that the students will be evaluated and promoted on the criteria of internal assessment performance.

Besides the Uttar Pradesh Board, several states boards like Goa, Rajasthan and even Madhya Pradesh declared the cancellation of the state board examinations, in consultation with the Union Education Ministry. As per reports, these orders have come in quick succession after the CBSE's decision to cancel the class 12 boards.
