In a short span of three years, the ODOP products from Uttar Pradesh have gained national and international recognition. As per officials, the 'One District One Product' scheme was initiated to encourage local craftsmen and revive the local industry. Besides, it is also focused at expanding employment opportunities for the groups involved in this work. Now, the plan of stepping into global markers will not only improve the visibility of these products but also improve their marketability in the overseas markets.

Every year, almost 20,000 craftsmen from across the state are trained in their craft and trade by the MSME department. Apart from being informed about the latest mechanics and methodology of production, they are equipped with the required toolkit, as a part of the training session.

Navneet Sehgal, Additional Chief Secretary, MSME said, "Over the world this is a known phenomenon but to improve the industry, particularly the micro and the smaller industries, the best way is to create clusters and then work on those clusters, create both soft and hard infrastructure, to improve their productivity, quality, packaging, marketability, thus improving their livelihoods and employment opportunities."

In a bid to aid the craftsmen for selling their produce, the MSME department has signed various MoUs and agreements with national and international organisations. Additionally, it has also partnered with Amazon and Flipkart for amplified assistance. "We have also now created our own e-marketplace, ODOP e-Mart, where these artisans are being included to sell their products through the e-commerce portal," said the secretary.

Meanwhile, Quality Council of India has collaborated with the MSME department to work on measures, for improving the quality of developed items. Further, Indian Institute of Packaging has also entered into an agreement with this sector to assist in the refinement of product packaging.

Through this initiative, the state has scaled up its exports by 30% in the past three years. Additionally, the administration has allocated adequate budget for the ODOP scheme. Talking about the same, Sehgal added, "It was Rs 83,000 crore earlier but in 2020, we made a profit of Rs 1.21 crore and the emphasis on training, providing incentives and tying up with the technical advisory services is helping the local artisans to improve the exports."
