UP prepares to stock 1.23 lakh litres of COVID-19 vaccine in cold chain storages by mid-December
Earlier, the Union Health Ministry has lauded Uttar Pradesh for its proactive role to combat the coronavirus.
The Uttar Pradesh Government has prepared to make arrangements for the storage space for the COVID-19 vaccine when it arrives. In a massive exercise, the Chief Minister has issued directives to prepare 1.23 lakh litres of cold chain storage capacity to stock the coronavirus vaccines in the state by the middle of December.
Lucknow, Kanpur & 5 other districts have 36,901 litres of holding capacity
The much-awaited COVID-19 vaccines will soon reach the State of Uttar Pradesh, and the authorities have started to make arrangements to stock the first batch by the middle of December. As per the composition of this newly manufactured drug, the dosage needs to be kept at the recommended temperature to ensure its efficacy. This also includes temperature regulation while the vaccine is in transit, from the production facility to the target beneficiary.
UP State officials are anticipating the arrival of 4 crore doses of the COVID-19 vaccine in the initial phase, and adequate space needs to be cleared up and customised to ensure that the boosters are not rendered ineffective. Official sources said additional cold chain storage facilities are being created in 26 districts in the state.
At present, Lucknow, Lakhimpur Kheri, Basti, Kanpur Dehat, Hathras, and Siddhartha Nagar already have sufficient space for keeping ice-lined refrigerators holding 36,901 litres. Besides them, a phased and graded process has been initiated in other state districts, to equip the state to efficiently build cold chain space of 1,23,205 litres will be completed by December 15.
