The State of Uttar Pradesh is pioneering the use of technology to build an iron-clad defence against the coronavirus, and in tandem with this scientific approach, the Chief Minister has further directed the officials to start a process of patient indexing. All medical institutions in state capital Lucknow and other districts will be linked to virtual ICUs by means of technology that will prioritise the treatment of serious and critically ill COVID patients from experienced doctors.

Uttar Pradesh vs Coronavirus

At a meeting of Team 11 on Friday, the Chief Minister has directed officials to adopt an effective strategy to arrest the transmission of coronavirus in all state districts that are reporting about 100 or more positive coronavirus cases, every day, for the last one week. The Chief Secretary, Additional Chief Secretaries of Home (health and medical education) along with medical experts are to hold a detailed discussion to finalise the action plan in this regard.

The Chief Minister has also initiated an elaborate yet precise system to track, monitor and surveil the situation at the ground level, especially in the districts identified with surged cases. Designated officials have been asked to maximise contact tracing for effective control on Covid infection. “Create micro-containment zones as and where required. Public address systems should be functional all the time to spread awareness about protection from Coronavirus and the prevailing traffic rules,” said the Uttar Pradesh CM. He has further directed the officials to target high-risk groups and put them to tests. Imploring further on the testing capacities of the state, the head of the state has also said that one-third of the total COVID tests per day should be conducted through RT-PCR and the rest by rapid antigen method.

Ensure execution of existing protocol

The state officials have been asked to set-up enforcement exercise to check how strictly, or not, are the norms of social distancing and safety precautions, such as wearing masks, are being followed. For this, he has reiterated on the nomination of nodal officers in all virus stricken districts, with the deployment of special secretary-rank officers.

Medical Upgrade

Apart from the novel coronavirus patient indexing process, the Chief Minister has also directed the officials to increase the number of beds in COVID Level-2 and Level-3 hospitals, further instructing them to keep ventilators/high flow nasal cannula (HFNC) functional in all districts.
