The tourism sector in Uttar Pradesh has been stagnant for quite some time now and the culprit is the 2 year COVID hiatus. With an aim to provide a boost to the tourism industry, the Uttar Pradesh Tourism Department announced the setting up of a district-level tourism council.
As part of this, all 75 districts in the state will have a tourism council which will be named the District Tourism and Cultural Promotion Council (DTCPC). This move will target crucial tourism indicators including dying art forms and will strategise policies to revive them.

Evolving tourism at a micro-level
DTCPC will shortlist various local attractions including, indigenous food items, locally made handicraft products, places with historical context and more. Reportedly, with the help of expert analysis and reviewing, a development plan will be created for these places and products.
The idea behind the initiative is to stir local economies with tourism potential, and also stimulate tourists, pilgrims and investors in unexplored and untapped hotspots. Also, this will help revive dying art forms, restore locally significant places of interest and also create jobs for the locals in their own neighbourhood.

Including the local economy as a part of mainstream tourism, the DTCPC will also work with influencers and investors globally. The district-level infrastructure will help the state dive deeper and work at a micro level, ensuring inclusive and holistic development.
UP Tourism looks to social campaigns to boost tourism
Reportedly, the Council will be headed by the District Magistrate of each respective district, with the district tourism officer, regional tourism officer and officers of the concerned department as its members. As of now, the plan to set up DTCPC for 69 districts has been finalised, for the remaining 6 districts, a plan will be created soon.
Moreover, the council will invite stakeholders, investors and influencers from the tourist industry to run publicity campaigns attracting tourists.
Recently, the state government also announced that they would give UP tourism an industry status. With round-the-clock development and campaigning, the state tourism department aims to target tourists from across the globe.
Uttar Pradesh is home to a lot tourism spots, catering to the varied interest of tourists and locals. Attractive destinations like Ayodhya, Varanasi, Mathura, Vrindavan and Chitrakut are quite popular among pilgrim tourists. Additionally, places like Lucknow, Jhansi and Fatehpur Sikri are known for their rich culture, heritage, flavours, handicrafts and monuments.
