As per the latest developments, the healthcare centre will now be providing ventilator facilities for young infants weighing as little as 2.5 kgs. Usually, such resources are not available for newborns but the hospital has deployed extensive efforts aiming to protect lives, in every possible way.

As per reports, the hospital will house four ventilator beds for newborn babies in addition to the 100-bed paediatric intensive care unit (PICU). Reportedly, the latest facility will be launched at the institute's referral building located on the Shaheed Path, on June 15. Given that the impending third wave has raised multiple fears for the children, such interventions have become the need of the hour!

Out of 100 PICU beds at the centre, reports state that 50 of them are High Dependency Units while the other 50, are isolation beds. Further, it has been reported that the child-care facility will include 20 ventilators, 4 of which will be specialised ones, to deal with infants. Besides, the hospital is also scaling up its stocks of pulse oximeters and other required devices.

Due to the young age of the kids, the supervision of doctors and nurses will not be sufficient to take care of them. In view of this, the hospital administration is preparing facilities that can accommodate the parents of the infected children. During the first two waves of the pandemic, the hospital authorities levelled a strong fight against the virus and now, it is leaving no stone unturned to safeguard the kids.
