Amidst the threats of rising cases of COVID-19 all throughout the country, wearing a mask to curb the transmissions of this virus has been made compulsory in many major states and cities in India. Delhi, Mumbai, Madhya Pradesh and Odisha have made this practice a compulsion for anyone stepping out of their houses. Following this pattern, even the Uttar Pradesh government has enforced this precautionary measure across the state and anyone found not heeding to this rule, might face legal actions.
What’s the Update?
This measure is being imposed by the concerned authorities to reduce the spread and prevalence of COVID-19 but since there is a shortage of masks, even covering of the face with a cloth or any sort of cover will be acceptable. Residents are also being encouraged to make homemade reusable face masks with the help of online videos. This rule came in immediately after India’s official number of cases rose above 6,000 including 186 deaths.
“Gamcha (a type of cotton cloth) or any cotton cloth which can cover your mouth can also be used,” Mrityunjay Kumar, the official media adviser to UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, stated. Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP) HC Awasthi and the state’s principal health secretary Amit Mohan, were also present at this press conference.
