In a move to further arrest the intensified effects of the second COVID wave, the Uttar Pradesh administration has announced that the weekly lockdowns will now be implemented for 3 days, starting from 8 PM on Friday to 7 AM on Tuesday, in all districts of the state. This measure was taken after 29,824 fresh COVID cases were recorded in the state on Wednesday with no visible signs of plummeting, anytime soon.
3,00,041 active COVID cases in Uttar Pradesh currently!
Despite multiple initiatives undertaken to dampen the infection rates in the state, the tally of active patients still stands at a perturbing figure of 3,00,041. Amongst the hardest-hit cities, Lucknow, Kanpur and Prayagraj, rank at the top spots with 46.596, 17,424 and 16,083 active cases, respectively. While the weekend lockdown was executed to restrict public movement on Saturdays and Sundays till May 15 earlier, the inclusion of Monday is a step ahead towards blocking the series of contamination.
As per records, a record high of 265 individuals succumbed to the virus in Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday, with 13 deaths recorded in the state capital. Further, a worrisome cumulative count of 11,82,484 citizens in the state have been affected by the virus till now and the maximum proportion of this number is shared by Lucknow. In such circumstances, it is incumbent upon the government to amplify measures for curtailing the spread of the contagion.
Citizens need to be aware and responsible for controlling the contagion!
Though government interventions are definitely the need of the hour, the consicous efforts by the citizens in this regard can be highly beneficial for breaking the chain of infections. Besides using masks, gloves, sanitisers and following social distancing at all public places, everyone must avoid unnecessary movements out of their homes.
