The outbreak of Novel Coronavirus or Covid-19 is undoubtedly the biggest news right now. The spread and the identification of patients all over the world is currently creating waves and it's no surprise that there has been a significant spread of panic and rumours along with it. The worst part is that the situation has become exceptionally dicey as a suspected coronavirus case has been reported in Lucknow.
With the threat looming so close to home, there is a noticeable fear. So if you're wondering how best to prepare yourself and what measures to take in order to not contract infection, here's everything you can do to avoid infection.
Wash your hands
Hygiene is one of the most important thing to focus on when trying to fight any kind of infectious disease. We touch a slew of things on a daily basis, from the elevator call button to the handrail of a public staircase, most places have germs. Washing of hands after touching any public property can be helpful to avoid infection. So wash your hands with soap frequently, as frequently as possible, for at least 20 seconds after touching anything and any-one.
Avoid physical contact
Coronavirus is an airborne disease, which means it can be contracted by simply breathing in the proximity of an infected person. So avoiding physical contact is the best route to take. Also, if someone is showing flu like symptoms, make sure to keep a distance of 2 metres from them. What we mean is, opt for a namaste instead of a handshake.
No touching the face
Since the spread of germs cannot be contained a hundred percent, hands are never absolutely clean. So wash your hands before touching your face, especially you nose eyes and mouth. Since germs can be killed/washed off via soap, you can touch your face after.
Masks are the best kind of protection against most air-borne diseases. Which is why you should make it a priority to get masks and use them while in public, especially in super markets, public transports and crowded areas. Masking will also ensure that if you're the one with an infection, other people are spared.
Beware of the symptoms
Coronavirus appears with flu like symptoms. Fever, soar throat, headache or cold and cough can be tell-tale signs of the disease. While these are also the signs of common cold and flu, taking necessary precaution is strongly advised. Consult your doctor in case you have the said symptoms.
Though, only one 'probable' case has been detected in Lucknow, practicing prevention should be on top of your list. Though our anxiety has been eased after finding out that the government has taken several preventive measures to tackle the situation. These include setting up of 71 isolation wards, at prominent government hospitals, screening of passengers from various countries and setting up of a Coronavirus Helpline Desk at the State Headquarters- 1800-180-5145.
