These doll-house like structures set up across the city, commonly known as Pink Booths, are women-friendly police booths, set up by the UP police authorities. Administered 24x7 by female police officers, these booths are a part of the 'Safe City' project, undertaken as a part of the 'Smart City' initiative. Just the mere sight of it, calms the anxiety amidst women on the streets and they are soon set to come with 'panic buttons' too, to ensure tighter security and prompt assistance!
Pink Express Buses
An initiative under the Centre's 'My Safe Bus Initiative', these Pink Express buses are armed with CCTV cameras and a much-needed panic button. The bus crew consists of ONLY women and this is an exemplary example of women empowerment and progressive girl-power! Though these buses are for exclusively for women, male relatives can tag along as well.
Coinciding with the launch of the 'Safe City Project' in Lucknow, 'Pink Patrol' comprises women patrol officers who have been appointed after a rigorous training procedure to handle various on-ground situations. The 'Pink- Patrol' is authorised with the power to take immediate action on the cases of molestation and crime against women. The patrolling schedules are also drafted based on complaints, reports and suggestions from women.
First of its kind 'Family Park'
To be tagged as a safe recreational space for women in the city, it has been proposed that Lucknow's Butler Park shall be revamped into a first of its kind 'family park'. This latest initiative looks forward to welcoming all female visitors while only men accompanied by their families would be permitted. With a pink toilet, pink booth and a sanitary pad vending machine, this park is all set to become the ultimate safe ground for females!
Till date, there are many places where buying liquor is all acceptable but when it comes to a woman standing in a queue, it is instantly frowned upon! So finding a solution to this issue, Vina Alkohal has created a safe space for women where they can choose their favourite drink while amidst a range of options and away from the prying eyes of judgy strangers!
Ushering in progress in a community, city, state and even a country, is impossible without providing a space for women which is safe, inclusive and equal.
