Some respite: Lucknow's new infection rate remained negative for straight 8 days

Long way to recovery as city's prime areas of Gomti Nagar and Indira Nagar still remain virus hotspots

Lucknow's new coronavirus infection tallies saw considerable fall in the last weekend with numbers falling from an average of 940 cases from week start to around 555 on Sunday. With this fall in the new infections and a remarkable rise in the recoveries, Lucknow has managed to arrest any positive growth of active cases for 8 consecutive days. Despite these lower fresh cases and increased discharges, Lucknow has long way to recover from the clutches of the coronavirus as Gomti Nagar and Indira Nagar continue to remain virus hotspots.

Lucknow has reported around 51,198 cases since the virus outbreak, around 46.4% of which were reported in the month of September. These high tallies have plummeted with in the last three days in the city, bringing respite to the state and city administration alike.

The COVID recoveries are on a sharp rise in the city and this proves the medical calibre of Doctors. With Lucknow serving as the testing ground of indigenous COVAXIN- anti coronavirus vaccine, these numbers are expected to rise further. Besides vaccine tests, the CDRI has also officiated the expansion of Umifenovir drug testing to a third hospital in Lucknow. After KGMU and Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences, The Central Drug Research Institute has started the trials of the influenza Umifenovir drug in Lucknow's ERA's Medical College.

Lucknow recorded as many as 555 fresh cases on Sunday, around 17% of which can be traced to the residential and commercial hubs of Gomti Nagar and Indira Nagar with 52 and 42 new infections respectively. These are the highest case tallies coming from a single region in Lucknow as per the reports of the city Health Department. Besides these two regions, Rai Bareilly Road, Chowk, Talkatora and Aashiana capture the top 5 spots in the list.
