20 new e-buses to now shuttle Mumbai's locals and tourists to Maha's treasured Ajanta Caves
To mark World Tourism Day on September 27, the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) launched a fleet of 20 electric buses to ferry tourists to the historic Ajanta Caves. The first electric bus departed on Friday, making it easier for Mumbai residents and tourists to explore this UNESCO World Heritage site.
Here’s what you need to know about the new buses:
Will transport tourists from the parking area to the cave complex
Fleet includes both air-conditioned and non-air-conditioned buses, accommodating 14 to 22 passengers
Employing 32 staff, the service aims to run every two minutes
Aims to reduce waiting times and provide a pollution-free travel experience
Entire fleet to be operational by October 20
With the introduction of this electric bus fleet and plans for a tourist-friendly booking system, visitors to this site can look forward to a seamless experience. As tourism continues to thrive—evidenced by over 258,000 visitors this year— Ajanta Caves, just a 100-kilometre drive from Mumbai, is set to become even more accessible!
