Mumbai’s rapid pace, where hard work is the currency for a fulfilling life, can sometimes be quite overwhelming. Fortunately, numerous idyllic getaways lie just a drive away, promising tranquil weekends. Easily accessible by car or train, here are 6 selected hill stations near Mumbai that offer a convenient respite for weary urban dwellers.

Chikhaldara

Nestled within the Amravati district, Chikhaldara finds its place perched at an elevation of 1,088 meters above sea level. The tranquil hill station is home to Melghat Project Tiger and shelters rare wildlife species including barking deer, chousingha, and sambar.

Chikhaldara offers several must-visit attractions such as Amner Fort at a height of 100 feet, Bhim Kund-a 3,500 ft. deep reservoir, and Bir Lake, dating back to 1890. The city also houses a range of activities, from water to adventure sports. Additionally, Lavasa’s annual International Cultural Festival, featuring a rich tapestry of art and music, offers an ultimate experience.

Beyond its natural beauty, Jawhar is steeped in rich cultural heritage, tracing back to the 14th century. Founded in 1306, it served as a crucial encampment for Maratha king Shivaji, during long travel.
