Mumbai’s weather took a turn on January 20, with India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) Santacruz observatory recording 35.4°C, making it the hottest city in the entire state. Weather officials have attributed the rise in daytime temperatures to the easterly winds. Mumbai's Santacruz station reading was 4.3°C above normal, while Colaba recorded 34°C, 3.8°C above normal.
