Ganeshotsav festivities have taken over Mumbai and this 10-day-long celebration will conclude with iconic visarjan ceremonies, held all over the city. In view of this, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has issued an advisory for Mumbaikars, regarding the immersion of the Ganesha idols.
The civic body has urged residents, especially children, against entering the waters to avoid getting stung by a jellyfish or stingray – which are often washed up at the beach between August and October. Further, people have also been asked to wear gumboots before wending into the waters.
The sharp barbs of stingrays can pierce the skin, while a sting from a jellyfish can cause a surge of electricity, a burning sensation, itching and swelling. Experts have advised the use of salt water to clean the injured area immediately. BMC has also placed lifeguards and ambulances at the beach, who can be called in for assistance incase of an emergency.
