BMC to link Gopal Krishna Gokhale Bridge with CD Barfiwala Flyover in Andheri

BMC aims to bridge this gap of nearly two metres by the end of June 2024.

Work to connect Gopal Krishna Gokhale Bridge with the CD Barfiwala Flyover in Andheri began on April 14. The project is being carried out by BMC and experts from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay and Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute (VJTI).

VJTI submitted their initial technical report to BMC on March 19, proposing that the two bridges could be connected by raising four spans. Following this, IIT conducted a thorough review and issued a final report on April 8, with minor adjustments. VJTI then prepared the final drawings based on the IIT report.

Officials stated that the girders for the northern side of the bridge are being transported from Ambala to Mumbai, and the assembling will only begin after April. BMC aims to bridge the gap of nearly two meters by the end of June.

The Barfiwala Flyover, constructed in 2008, originates from Juhu and will be connected to the north-south side of the recently reconstructed Gokhale Bridge. The Gokhale Bridge was partially opened for vehicular movement on February 26, this year.
