Digital collection of fines by clean-up marshals taken up by BMC in Mumbai

BMC has mandated the wearing of identity cards on uniforms so that impostors can't take undue advantage.

Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is all set to introduce an alternative, QR based system for collection of fines in the city. So far, the fines were collected only in cash by clean-up marshals for not following COVID-19 protocol in Mumbai.

Recently, BMC had also issued tenders for hiring 15 to 20 marshals across all 24 wards in the city.

Transparent online payment for fines

The primary idea behind this is to ensure transparency in the process of collecting fines in Mumbai. Through the centralised payment system, money will be deposited directly to the concerned administration. Clean-up marshals will collect fines via QR codes and violators can scan and pay through online platforms like Googlepay, Paytm, Paypal, Razorpay and more.

However, the above is just an option. COVID-19 protocol violators can still pay via cash, if they don't have access to UPI.
