FIRST since 1971: Civil defence mock drills in Mumbai, Lucknow & 242 other cities on May 7
A major nationwide civil defence mock drill is set to take place on May 7, with Mumbai, Lucknow, and other 242 cities gearing up for high-alert simulations. The drill comes in the wake of the recent terror attack in Pahalgam and aims to enhance public preparedness against potential emergencies.
First nationwide mock drill since 1971
In Mumbai, Thane, and Pune, the drill will test air raid sirens, blackout protocols, and evacuation plans, given the region’s dense population and strategic importance. Coastal areas like Uran and Ratnagiri will also participate due to their proximity to maritime borders.
Meanwhile, Lucknow held preparatory drills in Police Lines, with 19 UP districts classified by sensitivity levels. The exercise involves NCC cadets, Home Guards, and students, training civilians on emergency responses like blackouts and first aid.
This is India’s first such drill since 1971, aimed at preparedness, not panic. Citizens may experience temporary blackouts, traffic diversions, or evacuation rehearsals during the exercise.
