After months of delay, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has finally approved repairs for the crumbling Jog Flyover in Andheri East. The decision follows a nearly fatal incident in July, when a concrete slab from this Andheri East flyover, fell onto a moving car. A 2023 audit classified the structure as unsafe, leading the BMC to earmark ₹95 crore for repairs while seeking reimbursement from the Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (MMRDA).
Although the flyover is officially owned by the Public Works Department (PWD), the BMC has been responsible for its maintenance, since November 2022. Legal disputes initially delayed action, but officials have now prioritised repairs, citing commuter safety. With the Maharashtra Election Code of Conduct lifted, repair orders have been issued.
The BMC has urged the MMRDA to cover the costs, stressing the urgency to avert potential accidents on this heavily used highway. Work is expected to begin shortly.
