Flash Mob with Rapper Saniya MQ takes over Bandra Railway Station for Menstrual Hygiene Day

This year’s theme is #PeriodFriendlyWorld.

Ahead of the Menstrual Hygiene Day on May 28, on Monday, a vibrant flash mob came to life right in front of the bustling Bandra Railway Station in Mumbai. But this isn't just any flash mob; it was choreographed with a powerful purpose—to raise awareness around menstrual health and hygiene.

Led by the folks at Ujaas, an initiative fueled by the Aditya Birla Education Trust, and joined by the indie rapper and poet Saniya MQ, this flash mob assembled outside the main exit/entry space of the station.

The event saw Saniya MQ unveiling her new song, titled ‘Ye Laal Rang – Periods’. With thought-provoking lyrics such as Jaante nahi kyunki kam hai jaankari, 23 million ladkiya har saal school chhod jari,” the message resonates louder: breaking taboos, fostering understanding, and promoting dignity for all. The performance, which included stunts and flips, was performed twice between 11:30 am and 12:30 pm.

The performance was centred on this year’s Menstrual Hygiene Day theme ‘Together for a #PeriodFriendlyWorld’, which aims to empower girls to embrace their menstrual health journey with confidence and dignity. The seeds of change were planted in the minds of all who witnessed this vibrant spectacle, right in the heart of Mumbai's bustling Bandra.
