In a historic first, Mumbai Cha Sheth idol to tour city atop open-top double-decker bus
One of Mumbai’s most recognised Ganpati celebrations, Mumbai Cha Sheth, is set to return for its ninth year with an unprecedented innovation. For the first time in the world, the Ganpati idol will travel across the city aboard an open-top double-decker bus, enabling devotees to have darshan in their own neighbourhoods without visiting a fixed venue.
The grand unveiling of Ganpati Bappa’s idol will take place on August 27. The detailed route and timings for the bus procession will be announced shortly.
Organised by Red Cherrys Entertainment
The 2025 edition will be hosted by Red Cherrys Entertainment, led by Keyur Sheth. Dubbed Hijack India 2.0, the mobile darshan aims to make festivities more accessible, particularly for Mumbaikars unable to visit the main pandal. The organisers emphasise that the initiative will preserve the cultural and spiritual essence of Ganeshotsav while expanding its reach.
A legacy since 2015
Since its inception in 2015, Mumbai Cha Sheth has been a highlight of the city’s Ganeshotsav calendar, drawing large crowds and celebrity visitors. Over the years, Mumbai Cha Sheth has been known for its elaborate decorations, themed installations, daily aartis, and community gatherings. Preparations are already underway, with volunteers actively planning events.
As per reports, organisers will share live coverage on Mumbai Cha Sheth’s official social media handles throughout the celebrations.
