Mumbai has once again secured the prestigious title of 'World Tree City', marking its third consecutive win. The accolade underscores the city's dedication to urban forestry and green initiatives on a global scale. The award ceremony, held on World Earth Day, showcased Mumbai's dedication to maintaining its greenery and ensuring clean air for its residents.

BMC's efforts for greening Mumbai

Ranked third among the world's most tree-rich cities, Mumbai's commitment to environmental preservation stands out. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has been instrumental in this achievement, with its relentless efforts in tree planting and conservation earning praise from the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) and the Arbor Day Foundation.

Jitendra Pardeshi, Superintendent of the Gardens Department at BMC, emphasised the challenges posed by Mumbai's limited space for greenery. Despite these hurdles, BMC's innovative strategies, including Vertical Gardens, Terrace Gardens, and Miyawaki Forests, have contributed to the city's lush green cover. Under BMC's leadership, the city has implemented initiatives promoting tree conservation, including the planting of over five lakh trees using advanced techniques.
