India recorded 13,166 fresh COVID-19 cases; total active cases surges to 1.34 lakhs

The daily COVID-19 cases have remained under one lakh for 19 consecutive days

According to the MoHF's 8 AM update, India recorded a decline in fresh COVID-19 cases with just 13,166 in a span of 24 hours pushing the country’s cumulative caseload to 4,28,94,345. While the active count now stands at 1,34,235 cases. A total of 5,13,226 people have succumbed to the virus, with 301 fresh fatalities logged. Notably, the daily COVID-19 cases have remained under one lakh for 19 consecutive days.

A considerable reduction of 14,124 cases has been recorded in active COVID-19 cases in India, in the last 24 hours. While the daily positivity rate has dipped down to as low as 1.28%, resulting in a considerable decline in the weekly positivity rate that now stands at 1.48%.

The tally of recoveries has surged to 4,22,46,884, with the nation logging in a total of 26,988 recoveries in the last 24 hours. Meanwhile, the cumulative doses administered in the country under the nationwide vaccination drive also touched the 176.86 crore mark.

Closer home, UP logs in 491 cases in the last 24 hours

State-wise, Maharastra recorded a total of 1,183 fresh cases taking the state's cumulative tally to 78.6 lakhs on February 24, 2022. Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh reported 491 fresh cases and 1 death in the last 24 hours, taking the cumulative case count to 20.7 lakhs and total fatalities tally to 23,446 respectively.

Kerela, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu’s cumulative tally stood at 64.9 lakhs, 39.4 lakhs and 34.5 lakhs with 4064, 588 and 575 fresh cases respectively. Kerala recorded a total of 212 fatalities on 24th February, while Karnataka and Tamil Nadu reported 19 and 4 deaths each. Notably, most of the states witnessed a decline whereas few reported a hike in daily COVID-19 cases, comprising 0.31% of the total infections, while the national recovery rate further improved to 98.49%.
