With over 3 lakh cases, daily COVID caseload marks a decline in India

While the daily case count has marked a decline, the positivity rate of the country has shot up to 20.75% now

As per the data released by the Health and Family Welfare Ministry on Monday, India has marked a significant decrease in the daily COVID tally. A total of 3,06,064 people tested positive for coronavirus in the country taking the active caseload to 22,49,335, as of January 24. Positivity rate on the rise

While the daily case count has marked a decline, the positivity rate of the country has shot up to 20.75%. According to the official figures, the weekly positivity rate has also climbed to 17.03%. Meanwhile, with 439 casualties, the fatality count of the country has now reached a total of 4,89,848 cases. At present, the active cases in the country account for 5.69% of the total positive cases that have been reported ever since the onset of the pandemic in India.

At the same time, with a recovery rate of 93.07%, a total of 2,43,495 recoveries were marked in the country. Consequently, the total recovery count marked in the country has now mounted to 3,68,04,145 cases. So far, 71.69 crore tests to detect COVID have been conducted in India, including 14,74,753 on Sunday.

Vaccination status of India

A total of 162.26 crore doses of vaccines have been administered ever since the beginning of the vaccination drive in India. According to the data available on CoWIN, 68,63,28,807 beneficiaries are now fully-vaccinated in the country whereas 81,91,525 people have also received the third shot which is called precaution dose in India. At present, only healthcare staff, frontline workers and senior citizens with co-morbidities are eligible for the booster dose.

Earlier this month, nationwide vaccination drives were also initiated to innoculate children aged 15-17 in the country. So far, 4,22,83,683 adolescents belonging to this age group have received the first jab against coronavirus. Even though schools are shut down in most parts of the country due to COVID, the vaccination drives continue to take place in the school campuses.
