Daily caseload continues to decline in India with just 13,405 fresh COVID cases reported in last 24 hrs

The daily COVID-19 cases have remained below the one-lakh mark for 16 consecutive days

Marking a consistent decline, the daily COVID caseload in India dipped further below the 20,000-mark on Tuesday. As per the data released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, a total of 13,405 fresh COVID cases were reported across the country by Tuesday. With this, the cumulative tally of coronavirus infections in India has gone up to 42,851,842 cases, as of February 22.

Active caseload comes down to 1.81 lakh cases

A total of 34,146 patients marked their recovery by Tuesday morning, taking the tally of total recoveries to 4,21,48,123 cases in the country. Meanwhile, with 235 fatalities reported in the last 24 hours, the tally of fatalities recorded ever since the beginning of the pandemic climbed up to 5,12,334 cases. Consequently, the active COVID caseload in the country has come down to 1,81,075 cases, as of Tuesday morning.

The daily cases have remained below the one-lakh mark for 16 consecutive days, resulting in a decline in the daily positivity rate to 1.24% from 1.93%. Meanwhile, the weekly positivity rate stood at 1.98%, down from 2.12%.

Ever since the beginning of the nationwide vaccination drive against coronavirus in 2021, more than 175 crore doses have been administered in the country, so far. As per the data available on CoWIN, more than 78 crore beneficiaries have completed inoculation against COVID-19 in the country, as of Tuesday morning.

Meanwhile, more than 18 crore citizens are yet to take their second jab in the country. Under the countrywide vaccination drive for adolescents aged between 15-17, more than 7.55 crore doses of vaccine have been dispensed in India, so far.

As cases across the country continue to decline, Mumbai also registers a record 22-month low count, with just 96 COVID-19 cases being registered on Monday, the state's cumulative active caseload now stands at 14,525.
