All 70 league matches of the 15th edition of the IPL are likely to be held in Maharashtra, with Mumbai hosting a major chunk of 55 matches, across 3 venues. According to the tentative schedule of the Tata IPL 2022, all teams will play about 4 matches each at the Wankhede and DY Patil Stadium, and 3 matches at the Brabourne Stadium. The remaining 15 matches are also expected to take place in Maharashtra, at MCA International Stadium in Pune, read reports.

For the last two years, the Indian Premier League was being held in the UAE in wake of the COVID scare. However, the 2022 Edition is set to bring the country’s favourite cricket festival back home! Like every year, IPL Season 15 will be held in the double round-robin format, with each team will face other teams twice.
Since there are 10 teams this year, with the addition of new Lucknow and Ahmedabad franchises, a total of 74 matches are tabled in the league. This includes about 70 regular games and 4 play-offs.
While the league phase is being restricted to Maharashtra – three venues in Mumbai and one at Pune, the venues for the playoffs are yet to be decided. Sources claim that the final matches of Tata IPL could be held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The final decision of the venues and dates would be taken in the IPL governing council meeting scheduled for Thursday, February 24.

There are two start dates being contemplated for the opening of IPL this year. The official broadcaster — Star Sports wants to start the league on March 26, Saturday while the BCCI had earlier suggested March 27 to begin the proceedings.
The date confusion is debate regarding the league momentum for a doubleheader (two games on the same day), for maximum engagement. If the league starts on a Saturday, a doubleheader is possible on Sunday. However, if the league starts on Sunday, the doubleheader cannot be held on Monday (March 28), unless it is a national holiday. In either scenario, IPL 2022 Finals are set to be held on Sunday, May 29.
