Kaas Plateau near Mumbai awakens in 2025 amid monsoon challenges

This year, the Kaas Plateau in Maharashtra’s Satara district is gradually emerging from a challenging start to its famed flowering season. Initially delayed by erratic monsoon patterns and pervasive fog, the plateau is now revealing its much-awaited floral splendour, inviting nature lovers and travellers to experience a fleeting yet magical transformation.

The plateau awakens

Well, now, the wait is over. Kaas Plateau, recognised as a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site and often referred to as the Valley of Flowers of Maharashtra, has begun its short-lived but breathtaking floral display. Spanning 1,000 hectares of rugged lateritic land, the plateau is gradually transforming into a living canvas of white Chavar flowers, yellow Smithia, purple Utricularia, and magenta Impatiens lawii. Over 850 species of wildflowers, many endemic to the Western Ghats, will be on full display in the coming weeks.

Beyond the flowers

While the primary draw remains the spectacular floral bloom, visitors are encouraged to explore nearby attractions. Kaas Lake offers a serene picnic spot, and Vajrai Waterfalls provides a dramatic monsoon-fed cascade. History enthusiasts can visit Ajinkyatara Fort for a taste of Maratha legacy, while the Bhambavli Flower Plateau serves as a quieter, less crowded alternative for flora aficionados.

Booking tickets for the 2025 bloom

Kaas Plateau’s ecological sensitivity limits daily visitors to 3,000, divided across three time slots: 7:00 am–11:00 am, 11:00 am–3:00 pm, and 3:00 pm–6:00 pm. Tickets are priced at ₹150 per person, with an optional guide fee.

Early booking is essential, particularly for weekend visits. Morning slots are recommended for cooler temperatures and better light. Although basic facilities such as restrooms are available in Satara, there are none on the plateau, so plan accordingly.

How to reach Kaas Plateau

Located 25 kms from Satara city, Kaas Plateau is accessible as a day trip from Mumbai (about 5.5–6 hours by car via NH-48). Visitors may also take a train to Satara and drive 45–60 minutes, or fly into Pune International Airport before proceeding by road. The final stretch is a scenic uphill drive, complemented by parking and shuttle services for ease of access.

In bloom ONLY until October, visit the ‘Valley of Flowers’ for a getaway from Mumbai!
