Light rains continue in Mumbai, overcast sky to bring more showers this week

Pre-monsooon rain is expected to arrive in Mumbai by the end of May

After three-days of continuous light rains in Mumbai, a weather forecast report by IMD suggests that the overcast sky and moderate downpour will continue for the next 24 hours here. Following this, Mumbai is said to welcome intense pre-monsoon showers, accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms by May 30 and 31. This nimbus weather spell will significantly lower the temperature in the ‘Maximum City’ bringing a much-needed respite from the summer heat, reports read.

Humidity rises in Mumbai

According to IMD’s regional Meteorological observatory in Santacruz, Mumbai recorded 0.4mm of rainfall on Wednesday, washing Mahim, Sion, Powai, Mankhurd, Navi Mumbai, Dadar, Matunga, Parel and Colaba, limiting the temperature to a maximum of 34.5°C. However, the light rains have increased the humidity levels here, paving way for the pre-monsoon impact next week and full force monsoons by the second week of June in Mumbai.

On Thursday, Mumbai’s relative humidity was registered at 62%, and a moderate 104 AQI. Temperature too, is expected to take a dive in Mumbai, in line with the arrival of rains in the city. The weekly MeT record predicts that mercury levels will shuttle between 34°C and 27°C.

Mumbai showers are here, and soon puddled and waterlogged roads will spur nuisance for the public. All readers are urged to inform BMC officials and contractors in their areas to fix the city roads, cover open drains and manholes and check the overall drainage systems to avoid trouble.
