Maharashtra has emerged as the best performer of the national vaccination programme, the officials pointed out. An official data released on April 9 indicated that the state has administered 93,38,531 COVID-19 jabs, the highest across India. This includes 84,35,010 first doses and 903,521-second doses of the coronavirus vaccine. According to this index, Rajasthan and Gujarat stand next in line, with 88,07,351 and 84,75,305 vaccinations, respectively.

Maharashtra has faced the sharpest blow of the second wave of coronavirus in India, making it the worst-hit state of all times. However, the high rate of vaccination here has brought huge respite from the soaring infection tallies. Despite exhaustive stocks, Maharashtra flies high in terms of the inoculation and immunity drive against COVID-19. Reportedly, the Centre has now increased the state’s vaccination allocation to 17.43 lakh doses — from 7.43 lakh it had been assured on April 1 to expand and detail its vaccination drive.
Earlier also, Maharashtra made headlines by becoming the first state in India to achieve the 80 lakh vaccination mark and has continued with the same pace, administering over 13 lakh jabs in just 4 days! As per the current figures, Rajasthan and Gujarat follow Maharashtra while Uttar Pradesh ranks fourth with 81,45,161 vaccinations notched till date, comprising 69,51,956 first jabs and 11,93,205 second doses.
Expectedly, less-populated and smaller territories like Lakshadweep Islands (10,737), Union Territory of Daman & Diu (28,441), Andaman & Nicobar Islands (30,799), and Union Territory of Dadra & Nagar Haveli (31,851) rank the lowest in this official record.
