Toll charges have been waived for private and government electric four-wheelers on Mumbai's Atal Bihari Vajpayee Sewri–Nhava Sheva Atal Setu. The policy takes effect today. Toll exemption will apply at Shivajinagar and Gavhan. Moreover, the scheme is expected to be extended to the Mumbai–Pune Expressway and Samruddhi Mahamarg within the next two days.

Part of Maharashtra’s EV Policy

This move is part of the Maharashtra Electric Vehicle Policy, announced in April, aimed at cutting carbon emissions and air pollution. Under this policy:

  • All electric four-wheelers and buses using Atal Setu, Mumbai–Pune Expressway, and Samruddhi Mahamarg are exempt from tolls.

  • On state and national highways (under the Public Works Department), electric four-wheelers are entitled to a 50% toll discount.

Vehicles eligible for toll waiver

  • Electric buses

  • Private electric four-wheelers

  • Light passenger electric vehicles

  • Vehicles operated by state and urban transport bodies

  • Electric goods vehicles are not eligible for toll exemption
