Maharashtra is making a bold play on the global MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) stage. At IMEX Frankfurt, the state launched Maharashtra Convention Bureau (MCB), India’s first government-backed bureau to exclusively promote international conventions and exhibitions. Headquartered in Mumbai, MCB will spotlight cities like Pune, Nashik, and Nagpur alongside the capital, aiming to attract marquee global events and boost business tourism.
MCB will set the stage for world-class events
Supported by Maharashtra Tourism Policy 2024, this initiative aims to strengthen the visitor economy by capitalising on premium venues such as the Jio World Convention Centre. Led by Tourism Minister Indranil Naik, the Maharashtra Convention Bureau (MCB) will utilise the state’s world-class infrastructure, including Mumbai’s Jio World Convention Centre, excellent connectivity, and a vibrant hospitality industry, to establish Maharashtra as a leading MICE destination. The move aligns with the Maharashtra Tourism Policy 2024, focusing on business tourism as a key economic driver.
The bureau has already secured major events like the 2026 International Baccalaureate Congress and the 2025 Astronomy Olympiad. This is a game-changer for India’s MICE industry said ICCA CEO Dr. Senthil Gopinath, praising Maharashtra for setting a benchmark.
With India’s rising prominence post-G20, the MCB aims to transform the state into a hotspot for global conferences, innovation summits, and trade fairs, boosting tourism, jobs, and investment.
