In line with technological development in public sphere, the Maharashtra transport department makes six RTO services online. Allowing vehicle owners to adopt these services without even visiting the RTO office. The six services include, licence renewal, duplicate driving licence, change of address on a licence, duplicate RC book, change of address on the RC book and a No-Objection Certificate (NoC) for transfer of a licence to another state.

Cutting down 70% queues at RTO

As per the reports, offline services will be available for some time for those who cannot go online. Once the transition period is over, the services will be 100% online or faceless. The RTO in Mumbai receives about 18-20 lakh applications in the earmarked categories which pile on the paperwork.

The digitisation of these services, therefore, will not only create automatic logues of these applications for easy sorting process but will also make Mumbai RTO significantly paperless. Additionally, the move will cut down more than 70% of queues at RTO and streamline all procedures efficiently. As of now, the state transport department has been providing, 118 different services to citizens, out of which 86 are online, including the new additions.

Easing the process of obtaining licence in Mumbai

It may be noted here that the process to apply for a learner’s licence is already online in Mumbai. Candidates can apply and appear for its test digitally, using Aadhar Card. As per the officials, the department has also awarded the rights of car and bike registration and delivery process to vehicle dealers.

Additionally, digital signatures linked to Aadhar Card will be approved for attesting documents. With this, the state transport department is planning to reduce the footfalls at the office by 90-95%. Only those who are appearing for a permanent DL test or appearing for the verification of international driving licence will have to visit the RTO. The idea is to make the RTO available to all, from anywhere in the city.
