On June 18, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) announced the reopening of a 1.1 km promenade along Marine Drive, previously closed to carry out Mumbai’s Coastal Road work. The footpath, from G D Somani Chowk to Savitribai Phule Girls Hostel, is now open to pedestrians following the south-to-north phase completion.
The road along Marine Drive has also been expanded to 10.6 meters from the Princess Street Flyover to the Mafatlal Club signal. An additional service road adjacent to the Princess Street Flyover provides access to the northern tunnel. Furthermore, BMC has nearly completed installing tetrapods to reduce sea wave impact, while also reinstating seating arrangements and planning street lighting for the area.

However, the extensive restoration and development work on Marine Drive as part of the Mumbai Coastal Road Project has left many people dissatisfied. Numerous individuals took to X to express their disappointment, particularly regarding the noticeable absence of trees in the area.
