Metro-style gates coming soon to THESE 3 Mumbai Local stations; details
In a major modernisation push for Mumbai's packed local train network, Indian Railways is set to introduce metro-style controlled entry systems at key stations on the Western Railway line. A pilot project will launch at 12 stations including Bandra Terminus, Borivali, Andheri, and nine in Gujarat to manage overcrowding and fare evasion.
Under the proposed system, passenger entry and exit will be regulated through designated gates, similar to metro stations. There will be ticket checks and security screenings at entry points, helping to manage crowds, improve safety, and curb fare evasion.
To facilitate this change, elevated decks are being constructed at select stations in Mumbai to house ticket counters and security checks. Railway officials say the positive response to AC locals has encouraged them to pursue more commuter-friendly upgrades across the network.
