Mild tremors felt in parts of Maharashtra today, following a 5.3-magnitude earthquake in Telangana

A 5.3-magnitude earthquake struck Mulugu in Telangana at 7:27 am on Wednesday, sending light tremors across parts of Maharashtra, including Nagpur, Gadchiroli and Chandrapur. The National Centre for Seismology confirmed the epicentre in Mulugu, with tremors reported as far as 200–300 km away.

Nagpur residents reported mild shocks, while Gadchiroli, closer to Telangana, also experienced tremors. In Chandrapur, areas such as Ballarpur and border tehsils felt the quake. Authorities have advising residents to move to open spaces if further tremors occur.

Social media erupts with earthquake updates

The earthquake set social media abuzz, with users calling it one of the strongest ever recorded in Telangana. “For the first time in last 20 years, one of the strongest earthquakes occurred in Telangana with 5.3 magnitude earthquake at Mulugu as the epicentre. Entire Telangana including Hyderabad felt the tremors.” a user shared on X. No damage or injuries have been reported so far! 

Telangana is a part of low-risk Seismic Zone II. However, today's earthquake has renewed discussions about seismic preparedness in the region.
